I don't have one particular favourite "day skating". I do have a lot of days that I love to remember.

One of those moments it's the day that I had to rehearse my first program. I was so nervous because I had the rink only for myself and all of my coaches and skating friends was looking at me. When the music started I couldn't move my legs, I was trembling.

I don't remember when exactly I stopped to think about the people that was looking at me. I remember that my cheeks were on fire and then, after the firs jump I started to feel what I call, "The Skating Flow". That's when I started to skate only for me.

When I finished the program, everybody started to clapping hands. They were hugging me and congratulating me. I felt loved and most important, I think in that moment, I became a real skater.
</story>

    <story>
I competed in April 2009 at a USFS Showcase event near where I live. There were only four in our Adult Bronze Dramatic Group. The morning of the event, I was so nervous I could barely walk! And this was not my first competition! It was just that last April, at this very same event, I skated horribly. Last year's skate was the worst I have ever had in competition.

Two of the other ladies I already knew were more highly skilled than me. When I took the ice for my turn, I had one of the *best* skates I have ever had. EVER!

When it was my turn to take the ice, I did so with confidence. I was just happy to have the health and good fortune to participate. Skating my program gave me the most satisfied feeling, and performing it was indescribable. While my skate, in comparison, did not come up to the 1st and 2nd placers in terms of skills, and it was not "perfect", it was easily the best I've ever done in competition for myself. I came in third out of four, and it was the BEST third place I have ever gotten.

So far, anyway, this is my best skating memory. I did not wilt in the face of better skaters, and I enjoyed skating in competition! Nothing, and no placement, even if it had been "last" can take that feeling of knowing you can do, and DOING it, away! I was out for redemption for myself after last year, and I got that and more!

Happy skating everyone!

    <story>
When I used to skate, I had a funny habit of singing while I practiced. I have been involved in musical performance from a very young age, so it was only natural for me to sing while I skated. Most people at the rink enjoyed it. One of the coaches at the rink even suggested that I make a studio recording of a song, using my voice, piano, and violin, and skate to that! Unfortunately, I never did, but when I get the opportunity to get back into skating (aka graduate college), I just might do it!
</story>

    <story>
As today is Father's Day, I thought this would be appropriate. I spent a few summers training 3 hours away from home on the Cape, only seeing my dad every few weekends or so. I knew my parents were spending a lot of money to support my training, so I worked hard to improve and reach my goals for the season. The last competition after the summer was the Boston Open, where I performed my Novice Short. This was the only time my dad had come to a competition without my mom, so the competition had a different feel to it. He hadn't seen me skate since my summer training had ended, so it was the first time he could see the improvement I made. I skated a great program, and will always remember his beaming face as I got off of the ice, thanking my coach and sweeping me into a big bear hug. I think that was the proudest I have ever seen him.

He passed away the following spring, and the vision of his face and his proud reaction from the day are always etched in my memory. That will always be my favorite skating moment, and one of the best memories of him.
</story>

    <story>
I first attended Skate for Hope in 2008. It was amazing to see all the headliners and local skaters put such emotion and energy into the show. Everyone was very excited to perform for such a great cause. My mother had recently passed away from cancer and it was particularly moving to see the individual skaters present roses to loved ones that are breast cancer survivors.

I look forward to next year!
</story>

    <story>

Five years ago an old school mate said "let's go skating" so I took Mom's old skates and went at the rink. I was skating horible and the hardest thing I wanted to learn was to skate backwards. But I liked it and went skating quite often with friends or family. I loved to watch the figure skaters but I thought 14 was too late to start.

But the next season I decided to go to group lessons. I went only on Saturdays because it wasn't fun at all all the others were kids who are about to start with a coach and they were progressing faster than me. But one saturday morning I was really really tired from a party and I said I'll go on Sunday. The next day a young coach asked me how old I am. I said I was 15 and she said that it's a bit late for freestyle skating and I might try Synchro skating. She was just forming a new team she had to teach us all the basics. It was the end of the season I didn't even manage to learn 3-turns. I was very enthusiastic for the next season and I wanted quad roller skates to practice in the summer. I got them for my birthday and I started skating on my own. I did crossovers, swizzles, crossrols, spirals - simple stuff you can do without a lot work with a coach.

The school year came and I understood that my gym class teacher who's an ex figure skater and coach was starting artistic roller skating practises. She's the best coach ever :))) She allowed me to jump and spin clockwise, she didn't care I was older and she was really nice. There I learned the basics and started easy jumps like waltz, salchow and toe-loop. I remember that the "almost full rotation" of the salchow was scaring me. But people started quiting and the place where we were skating was closed for repairment and it seemed like I'll never skate with a coach again.

For the next Cristmas I had my first own ice figure skates. Nothing special just for public skating. My goal was to learn waltz jump and one leg spin. I skated a few times with my old coach and started getting on ice what I learned on quad skates. And then I heard about a figure skating competition for amateurs. I said I want to go, I had only a 2 months to learn the single jumps and two spins. I couldn't jump at all. And I was really scared like stunned at the competition. Now as I see the video I can't imagine that with no technique or artisty or any visible talent I stepped on ice. But I did it.

Since then I'm trying to skate and practice as much as I can. I had knee issues but they didn't stop me. Now I dream a for lot more than a waltz jump - I'm doing axels and double rotations off ice.

For these five years I fell in love.

</story>

    <story>
One of my favorite skating memories goes back several years to a summer competition. An ice rink in the area had recently opened and was hosting a competition for the first time. The rink hadn't really established yet and had very few skaters. Our rink made up more than half the skaters at the competition. Normally, it's a little tense competing against girls you skate with every day, but this competition was different. All the competitors seemed to be relaxed. We cheered on girls we were competing against from our rink, and from other rinks across the state. It was the most relaxing and fun competition I have ever experienced. If only all competitions could be so supportive. It's nice to see skaters skating for the pure joy of the sport.
</story>

In May I went to Florida's Sunshine State Games and all I can say about it is it was definetly not my best expierence. I was waiting to skate, butterflies in stomach and was ready to give it all I had. Once I stepped onto the ice I knew it was my time to shine. I started my program in a disasterous way. My tabletop seemed like it travelled a mile, then I regained my confidence, but fell 6 moves later on my flip-loop. I ended up recieving tenth place out of ten girls, which was very unusual for me because I 've always gotten 1st, 2nd or 3rd in individual skating. That expierience really opened my eyes! I learned that most of the time in skating you're not going to get the best place and that nobody's perfect! I also learned that in life sometimes you're going to be brought down or you're going to fall in a jump, but what builds character is getting back up - you have to keep trying. Ever since that happened, I've been working so hard on that program and am hoping that in my upcoming competion it will earn a better place.

    <story>
I was skating on public session with my friends and we were having lots of fun. Especially when I thought that it would be fun to imitate Ice Princess... I skated very fast and screamed 'Loook look, I'm just like Ice Princess' (i was imitating that dance thing)! the whole rink was watching me when i suddenly fell very very hard on my knees! it hurt sooooooooooo much hahaha but everyone was laughing so I tried to smile and stand up immediately but of course, i fell down again! very embarassing but oh well, everyone had fun because of me haha. Me and my friends still laugh about it when we watch it back (it's captured).

There was one spin worth major points that we were expecially working on, but we just couldn't get it right. Our coach told my brother to stop swinging his leg, or he'd kick me.

Well he swung his leg and he kicked me. And I mean, he kicked me! Hard! Ouch! I had to go to a dr. and get a tetnis shot.
</story>

    <story>
My very first competition was when I had been skating about a year.

I was really ill with a flu like thing. And had to travel a little way to get to the competition.

I skated for my warm up and had to sit down. I felt so unwell. I got ont o do my competition and felt like I was going to be sick (I wasn't) I can't really remember what I did for the rest as it is a bit of a blur!

But I can remember standing on the ice waiting for my photo to be taken just swaying because I wanted to just go home.

It turned out I came 4th out of like 20 skaters which was good.

On the way home I slept and didn't get out of bed until a week later!
</story>

    <story>
  I had just started taking private lessons and I was so excited about getting onto the ice. I was only able to skate once a week, so I always made the best of every lesson.

  I didn't see my coach walk into the rink, so when I saw her coming onto the rink through the staff door, I had to hurry to get on because the freeskate session had already started. I hurry, but when I get on, I fall. It feels like I have absolutely no control over my skates! There were 3 coaches in front of me (one of which was mine) and they were all yelling, "don't get up!" But, of course, I get up. Again, I fall. What the heck is going on with my skates?!

  Of course, if you are a skater you have probably seen someone make the mistake I made, or even done it yourself! I walked on the ice with my gaurds on. Ooops! Hopefully that will never happen again! :)
</story>

After falling i felt a little light headed so i got off the ice and went to the ladies room. I checked myself in the mirror and didn't see anything abnormal. I went back out on the ice and did a spin and felt really funny. That's when i decided to call home and have my parents come pick me up.

The next morning when i woke up, feeling fine, and looked in the mirror. And there it was...a huge black eye. I was sort of panicked. I was only in 8th grade at the time and had never had a black eye before.

My black eye began to fade throughout the week, but was still fairly visible at the competition. My mom had to help me hide the black eye w/ a little make up magic. It wasn't funny at the time, but when i tell the story now, people definitely get a giggle out of it ;)

Skate safe! <3
</story>

I am delighted to be hosting my inaugural Figure Skating Fantasy Camp this September in Nantucket. I hope other adult skaters are as excited as I am about this experience. I'm always trying to encourage adults to be brave and take the plunge. I believe that you are never too old to skate. It's a healthy exercise. It's creative, and it's a great activity for adults. The idea of a destination adult skating camp has been on my mind for several years, and it will be so much fun to have it come to fruition. We needed to do something for the adults where they could go away and experience ‘camp' again. Many skated when they were younger; maybe there are some who would like to skate again. Skaters can do as much or as little of the camp as they want and I think the island of Nantucket is the perfect location for this event. We will be skating at Nantucket Ice Rink which is a beautiful rink and a wonderful facility, and the quality of the ice is the best I have ever skated on.

The only requirement at the camp is a pair of skates and a fun attitude. Skaters from all levels are welcome. We will choreograph a skating program for each of the participants, and everyone will have a chance to do a solo in the final performance if they so desire. My coaches and I will share what it is like to be a skater. We will tell stories and share the good and the bad. We want to pass on our love and passion for the sport. We have all been through so much, and the stories shouldn't die.

Skating is a wonderful world, and I am so lucky to be a part of it. My fellow coaches and I have become great friends, and we want to share the love we have for this lovely sport. My goal is simply to provide a lifelong skating memory—filled with world class instruction, new relationships, fun and laughter, and an inside view of the world of skating. Hopefully, each participant will learn new skills and leave with a greater love of skating.

Registration is available on my website at www.dorothyhamill.com, and interested skaters can e-mail questions to us about the camp at fantasycamp@dorothyhamill.com. I hope to see you soon on the ice in Nantucket
</story>

    <story>
The idea came to me (Tim David) on May 31, 2009 after a rehearsal for the end of year North Jersey FSC exhibition. I wanted to use my resources and talent and knowledge as a skating director and executive assistant for 9 years. I wanted to make a difference. I knew a lot of benefits shows already happened and were on the works, Breast cancer & Muscular Dystrophy, shows such as Stand up for Life, Skate for Life, and Skate for Hope. So I decided that I wanted to do an aids benefit. I knew this was not an easy project to tackle. But I was determined that day to make it happen. I phoned my General Manager at the rink and have set the day and date that afternoon for Saturday March 13, 2010. Now, title of the show…. I previously helped my friend Aaron Gillespie with the title of his show when he had his epiphany that night for Stand up for Life. I also loved Destiny Child’s song, Stand up for Life and thought it was very fitting for the show. Now to come up with my own title and theme song…. My partner/husband Brian Mancuso had come up with One Step Closer. He believes that every benefit and funds go to the research for the cure, we are one step closer. Perfect, I thought. The theme song hasn’t hit me yet, so I decided to search for aids foundations and the cast of skaters. The aids foundation that One Step Closer benefit will raise money for is the Aids Resource Foundation for Children. Their mission, “Meeting the needs of children and families living with HIV/AIDS.” I looked through their services and was touched by the good deeds that they do. I called them up and expressed my interest.
While I was waiting for the foundation to agree on collaborating with me on this benefit I started looking for skaters. I asked my former coach, friend, and mentor US Open competitor Heidi Vanderhoof, and close friends 1999 US Juvenile champion Aaron Gillespie, 2006 North Atlantic Regional champion Michael Quadrino, 2001 US Juvenile Brady Chin and 1996 & 1997 US National Senior Ladies competitor Alizah Allen to skate, and all happily agreed. I then contacted other friends and Facebook friends; Nicholas LaRoche, Melissa Bulanhagui, Valentina Marchei, Rory Flack-Burghart, Kylie Duarte and Colin Grafton, and Scott Smith and In addition to the cast I also have skating champions such as Ann Patrice McDonough and Oksana Baiul. I also have other skaters who will let me know around November whether they can skate and attend the benefit on March. Performing also are the Figure Skating in Harlem synchro team. Serving as my honorary guests I have Sharon Cohen-Founder of Figure Skating in Harlem, Figure Skating Fashion Designer Tania Bass, 2-time Swiss national figure skating champion, former European & World competitor, 2-time Professional Bronze medalist, Guinness World Record holder Lucinda Ruh. Within my board of directors I have US Adult National competitor Thom Mullins and US pairs legend Tai Babilonia. Helping me making this show a success I also have my partner/husband Brian Mancuso serving as my executive director and close friend Karen Malanum as my associate producer event coordinator. The logo of One Step Closer is designed by my close friend and New York City Fashion Designer Potenciano Adobas.
The event is being held at Central Park’s Lasker Skating Rink where I serve as their Figure Skating Director. It is a two rink outdoor facility located at 110th Street Central Park North. Tickets will be available online on Monday, August 3, 2009.
The official website of the event is www.onestepclosernyc.org
</story>

National figure skater attending Northwestern

September 17, 2009

Laura Hopkins, Midwest City sophomore at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, has been figure skating for 15 years, and because she has continued to practice this talent, she has earned a silver medal in dramatic artistic figure skating.

“I’ve wanted to be a skater for as long as I can remember,” Hopkins said. “I started taking lessons when I was 4, but started seriously at age 6.”

Laura Hopkins won the silver medal at the State Games of America, formerly called the U.S. Olympic Festival, this summer in Colorado Springs, Colo.

To qualify for the State Games of America, participants must first receive a medal at a local state game. In Oklahoma, Laura is a member of the Sooner Skating Club of Oklahoma, and participates in the Sooner State Games.

During the national contest, she competed against others who also had medaled in this event from other states. She skated against 12 others to win the silver medal in dramatic artistic figure skating.

Because the State Games of America are only held every other year, she will be the reigning silver medalist in this category at her level until the 2011 national event.

Hopkins said the ceremony for the State Games is similar to the Olympics.

“There is an opening ceremony and each state carries their respective flags,” Hopkins said. “This event takes place in Colorado Springs.”

On weekends when Laura returns to Oklahoma City, she practices on her home rink. She also helps with the Learn to Skate program by teaching beginning skating.

A psychology major, Laura said she attended Northwestern because of the smaller class sizes and affordable tuition; however, there is no place in Alva for her to practice her skating. She improvises by doing off-ice training such as stretching and practicing her routines in tennis shoes.

“I am able to practice my spins on a training device called a spinner,” Laura Hopkins said.

Although she had planned to focus on her classes once she began college, Laura continues to skate whenever she has a chance.

“I want to be a skater as long as I can,” she said.

    <story>
I know this doesn't have anything to do with skating but...

So there was this sophmore (I'm a freshman) who was flirting with me during spanish one day. I was really excited about it, hoping maybe he liked me, but the next day all he did was flirt with my ex best friend. I assumed he wasn't interested.

2 Days ago was fall homecoming. I was having a blast when the speakers at the front started playing Big Green Tractor. It's a slow lovey song, so all the couples started dancing. We all silently wished we had boyfriends, I had never even danced with a guy. My friends and I walked out and went to get a drink and touch up our hair. When we finished, it still had about 45 seconds.

We were talking and suddenly that sophmore came up to me, grabbed my waist, pulled me in and said "Lets dance". I was in shock! I was shaking but I kept dancing. My friends just stood on the side staring and saying "OHMYGOSH!" It was all fantastic until I stepped on his foot. It wasn't hard, but it was enough to notice.

  "Are you stepping on my foot?" he said.

  "I didn't mean to," I giggled. I didn't think it was too bad.

  He started to let go, so I let go and walked away toward my friends, but as soon as I did, I was being pushed back toward him. He was still standing there! I was so embarassed! He probably thought I didn't want to dance with him!

  We started dancing again as the song was almost over. On the LAST STEP I stepped on his foot AGAIN! I was horrified! It's one thing to do it once, but TWICE?!?! AND, I had walked away earlier.

  Moral of the story? When you are slow dancing, don't pick up your feet AT ALL--even a little when you are swaying back and forth. :)
</story>

I can’t even remember the first time I got inspired for anything skating connected. I remember how I started though.

I must have been 5th grade or something when in English class we had a lesson in the book that had a picture of rollerblades somewhere there in the pages. I was never into sports but that seemed like an interesting idea to me so soon after that I got my first rollerblades. Fitness ones that were at least one size bigger than mine. So when I started rollerblading I was only going forward and didn’t even have the idea to attempt anything else. For some years I was only skating on the balcony of my house still not doing anything. One day I watched the movie “Ice princess” and I thought: Hm, what if some figure skating moves are possible even on rollerblades. So I started doing some stuff. Learned the spiral, learned the waltz jump and some simple footwork. But that was as far it went back then. There was no other place to skate but my balcony. Then I went to visit some friends of mine in the capital of my country /the only place with big indoor rinks/ and 2 days before my 17th birthday they took me ice skating for the very first time. It was the best present ever. And with the help of the rollerblade practicing the first time I went ice skating ever was also the first time I did a spiral on the ice. It came just like that, like the most natural thing. A month later when it was already December a small outdoor rink was made in my hometown and it was the best thing ever. It was tiny, with very bad ice all the time but I was happy. I even got my first figure skates. I started watching videos in youtube so that I could learn some moves on my own. I became one of the best skaters in my hometown and it felt great. I was still at a very beginner level but since there was no rink for years there, people didn’t know how to skate. I was even invited to do a “short” performance (10 min) for the opening of the rink. A few months later I was introduced to the first ever amateur figure skating competition in my country which was held again in the capital – Sofia. It was a fun experience but it was my first time skating on a glassy, smooth ice. And I had only six minutes to get used to it. Definitely not enough so I screwed it up a little bit. I did pretty bad – I was 18 out of 20. But I was like the only girl that never took any lessons. All the others were living in the capital and were a part of a skating club. So far so good. Next year /2008-2009/ they made an outdoor tiny rink again and it was the first time I figured out the scratch spin, started doing some sit spins and learned the salchow. I went to this amateur competition again and this time I was 6 out of 10. I did pretty badly again and I was very sad for not doing exactly what I had in mind but went home with good memories. This year I got accepted in New Bulgarian University which is situated in Sofia so I am now blessed with the opportunity to skate on a big rink with smooth ice. There are compulsory sport activities in the university so I chose figure skating and am having lessons once every week. Sometimes I go to the other rink that gives lessons to amateurs but it is too far away.

     Anyway…I love figure skating and everything connected to it. I hope that now I can improve faster and maybe win a medal from one of the upcoming competitions.

    <story>
a couple of years ago about two weeks before my very first competition i was rehearsing my program with only me and my coach on the ice. she said something to me and i started to reply right before i went into a jump. i took off wrong and ended up landing on my face, cheek bone first, with my knee slapshotting extremely hard on the ice. i had a concussion and a possible torn meniscus. i couldn't walk for a couple of days and i had to get a hinged brace to wear whenever i skated. i did go to the competition though and i ended up THIRD PLACE! so even with an injury i did fantastic for the first time. <story>
Some time last year I was at a test session. And I had been doing soo well. And I dont remember what test I was testing but, I was on the last move. And I had been doing so well, and I don't really know what happened but I dropped my foot right at the last second. And the judges called me over and I knew what was going to happen. So they told me to redo just the one side that I had messed up. Then I did that and it was perfect. But the judges called me over again, and I have no clue what was going through my mind at the time. One judge told me that I had done the wrong side, and the other 2 were like no she didn't. So the judge who was wrong made me redo it and I totally messed it up. So i come off the ice practically crying, and it didn't matter in the end, because that judge passed me by 4 tenths over!!! She was crazy!!
</story>

    <story>
Ok so one day my firend and I decided to go ice skating, so we asked her dad to take us. We went to the San Jose sharks ice rink. When I first started I wasn't that great, but we were there for 4 hours so you could guess I got a little better. I loved it so much that I asked my mom to let me sign up for lessons on saturday mornings. After I started doing lessons I was put on a synchronized junior ice skating team. I think I was on junior team for maybe half a year to a year adn I then tried out for senior team. First I was an alternate with my 3 other friends Emi, Stacey, and Lucy. Now I'm a full on senior! I also do solo stuff and I compete at freestyle 5. My favorite spin is sit and my fav. jump is loop!

    <story>
Hi my name is Roku and i started skating when i was 16, im from Mexico city and here there is not a lot of ice rinks and also they are very expensives. So when i learn how to skate i t was on the discount days, then two years ago the city's goverment installed a free ice rink in the middle of the zocalo, that its funny cause here no many people know how to skate, but they made long lines to enter and feel the ice. Here the wheather is hot even in winter, and in the middle of the day the ice rink is like a pool, but it doesnt matter to me i went in those lines many days untill they remove it. I love skate even when i dont do fancy spins i like being spining around the ice rink.

Thats my funny story. And now i would like to add my cuppon XD

    <story>
My favorite olympic moment was when Evan Lysacek was backstage with Frank and Lori awaiting Plushenkos scores. When he realized that he had won gold his face was absolutly priceless. My favorite part of this moment was when Lori Nichol, Frank Caroll, Evan, and Shen and Shao shared a hug. An olympic gold medalist hug.

    <story>
My favorite olympic moment was seeing Shen and Zhao win gold. I love our american teams but their story was an amazing fairytail and I loved it. It just represented what I love about skating. They skate because they love to and you can see it in their movement. There's this passion there that I only wish I could have. They love each other so much it brings this added element of closeness and beauty to the table. Seeing them win was one of my favorite moments because represented the hard work and passion I dream of putting into my skating and that makes figure skating of all kinds so beautiful. The look on their faces when they won was priceless. I'll never forget seeing them achieve their dreams and I know if they can come back from injury and retirement I can achieve my goals too.
</story>

    <story>
I started skating when I was in the seventh grade. I got a call from my long time friend to go skating for fun at the local rink. She had been skating before and, in an effort to make me learn to skate on my own, pulled me to the center circle and left me there, angry, trying to move. Less than two months later I was starting lessons. I know I'm not the typical skater. I'm not the typical person either. I'm not thin and I'm pretty short but I fell in love with skating. At first it was just a hobby but as I continued, the friends I made and things I learned changed me. I have a new family and my life is completley different than it was before. My friends and I have been through rough times. The only rink in the state, our home, was shut down for good almost three years ago. Since then we have had to skate in Pelham, Alabama, many times spending all of saturday on the ice just to get in some practice time. My skating family is dedicated and loving. They don't doubt that I can do things just because I'm larger than the rest. They just keep pushing me to become a better skater and along with that I've become a better person. I'm glad I began skating because I don't want to imagine the turn my life would have taken if I hadn't.
</story>

This solely Chicago produced ice show opens their doors. “After Dark” took its audience out for a night on the streets of Chicago, with audience members experiencing an emotional journey from dusk to dawn. The cast included many international stars and the show’s creators, Lithuanian Ice Dance Silver Medalists Nicolette Amie House and Aidas Reklys. Together with IceTalent Inc. they produced their first ice show and were pleased with the results.” The audience was really receptive” says Ms, House “they were clapping from the start and they gave us a standing ovation at the end”.

            Included in the cast was three time European Champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist, Jozef Sabovcik. Nick named,” Jumpin Joe”, he wowed audiences with his fully laid out back flip and tuck axel. World Professional Champions, Elena Leonova and Andrei Khvalko also pleased audiences with their romantic program, “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, and other upbeat performances that included inverted lifts and the ever popular headbanger. The adagio team of Josiah Modes and Colleen Maguire rounded out the couples portion of the show.

            Local talent presented itself as well to the delight of audiences. Regional competitor Sean Marshinski and National competitor Osadolo Irowa both turned out solid performances. Tomoki Hiwatashi was a crowd pleaser, skating to Russian folk music .The pint sized talent whipped off jump after jump.

            Greek skaters Maria Papas and Georgia Glastris looked beautiful. Georgia was showy and appeared to be in her element in her ‘Fever” program. Senior Lady Alexa Scimeca also presented two lovely performances. She skated one program to the music played by the violinist Kristina Kubelskiene. Former Disney star, Lane Walker stunned audiences with her backflip and her extraordinary dance ability.

            Nicolette Amie House and Aidas Reklys had their hands full with the production, music, choreography, group numbers and their own performances .However, they thoroughly enjoyed the work and Nicolette and Aidas skated to the IL Divo version of the Hallelujah song, giving a performance which showed their strong connection. Then it was time for some fun with their rendition of Chicago’s Cell Block Tango. This couple is a rather unique team , both originally singles skaters, they were able to incorporate single and dance moves into their entertaining routines.You are never quite sure what to expect from Aidas and here he showed off his skills while “playing with fire”.

            It is hard to have an ice show these days without a performance by a synchronized skating team. The Starllights Senior Team was represented that night and were truly a wonderful addition to the event.

            The show gave you some romance as well as some moments of suspense in their “gangster” portion. Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal was the production number which included the main cast. Nicolette in the white suit, Aidas and the guys in mob attire and the girls dressed to kill, gave a performance reminiscent of the original video, machine gun and all.

The 75 minute show was a hit with the audience, leaving you wanting more. Nicolette and Aidas have already received phone calls asking for an encore performance .Will there be another show? Aidas replys, “We skate from the heart and for the fans. They are most important. We will see”.
</story>

    <story>
My favorite Olympic moment was when Evan Lysacek performed his gold medal performance, and when he earned his medal. He represented that the United States stands strong in Figure Skating. Evan skated a flawless and amazing program. His performance was incredible and a really wonderful thing to watch such a phenomenal skater perform to the best of their ability, like all skaters should when performing. He put on a performance that will be memorable to me, and hopefully everyone else who watched him skate. He should be proud for himself, and for America, and we should all be proud of him for his awe inspiring achievement in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
</story>

    <story>
So, I was born in The United States and my dad is Chilean and my mom is American, we have moved back and forth. I started skating when I was 5 and we lived in California and my mom took me to an ice rink. But it has been on and off since I moved over 10 times in 15 years of my life. Right now I live in Santiago, Chile and the ice rink is really bad. It is small, hard ice, and no zamboni. However, I go to NC twice a month to get good practice and test. My coaches there are amazing. Andriy is from Ukraine and he is really fun to work with, Kaitlyn is for the States and pushes me hard, but she is a really good coach as well. My coaches in Chile: Olga is fro Russia, she was good, but took a couple months off because she had a beautiful baby girl that she named Dasha after Sasha. Silvina is from Argentina, she came from the Russian circus on ice, the isn't that good with helping me advance, but she makes fun programs. Also, Katty K form the states lives in Chile and comes in to help us sometimes. In this country, skating is put into three level, beginners, intermediate and advance. Anyone who can land an axel is advanced, so we get tired of competing against each other. All the girls in Advance are from different countries, there are no girls in advance that are Chileans. We all compete in our counties. Thats why I go to the States twice a month, so that I can test and compete. Supposidly I'm on juvenile, but because it costs a lot to go to the States every two weeks I dont go during out summer vacation (Winter in the United States) So I only tested up to juvenile cause I just recentily started competing in the States again even if I lived there two years ago. We have lived in the States and in chile several times. Ive lived in California, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina etc. So yeah. Thats about it.
</story>

    <story>
In Santiago Chile, Were I live, there was a 8.8 earthquake on Saturday. There are only two rinks in Chile, and they are not for figure skaters, they are for the public only. It is open from 11 Am till 2 Am. Public the whole time. The rink is shaped like a snowman and has a giant pillar in the middle. The other rink in Chile is also very small but had no pillar in the middle and is actually shaped like a rectangle. The lights of the ice rink are not to keep the ice good, its to make the people amused by the lights. They are lights that leave circles and drops of water on the ice. After the earthquake, both ice rinks were left with no electricity and the ice melted. When the re-froze, the ice was hard with circles all over the ice. I can say that we learned to control our spins better because we would break out blades if we got to close to the circles. One half of the rink was blocked off because a light fell and the ceiling broke. They rinks also do not own zamboni's and are the only two rinks in all of Chile. Though it is so bad, it had taught the starters at my level (all of which have never skated on worse ice) to appreciate our ice rinks in the countries we come from. The good part was two days after the earthquake, the whole skating community was together skating again. cerogrado.cl
</story>

Many, including me, did not think she would continue. She was very close to her mother and to have her die of a heart attack was heart breaking. <story>
Of course it's not my favorite Olympic moment that Joannie Rochette's mom died; rather, the amazing strength that Joannie use to get through the ordeal. Instead of simply giving up and dropping out after the devastating news of her mother's death, she continued on to compete in the Olympics as was her dream; just like her mother would have wanted, she said. And not only did she skate, but she skated great!
</story>

    <story>
My favourite Olympic moment was when Joannie Rochette won the Bronze medal in the Ladies' figure skating. Watching her skate so courageously in her short and long program was heart-warming and inspiring.

Joannie's courage inspired me and she is now my role model in skating.
</story>

    <story>
My favorite Olympic moment was Shen and Zhao's triumph in the pairs event. Their short program was exquisite and although there were some flaws in the long program, I was hapy theu were named Olympic champions in the end. They skate as one and have spent many years working and perfecting their craft and now their hard work has finally paid off. I am equally happy for their coach too because he also spent many years of hard work to become the coach he is today.They are my favorite pair skaters!
</story>

    <story>
my favorite olympic moment was definitely seeing Evan Lysacek win the gold. he worked the hardest for it and he totally deserved it more than anyone there.

another favorite moment was seeing the Canadian dance team win gold. although i love the american teams, i am a Canadian and i loved to them fight their way with grace and pure talent to the top.
</story>

    <story>
My name is Peyton and I am 8 years old. I live in Mo and have been skating since I was 4. My favorite Olympic moment happened when my parents took me and my coach to see the Women's finals in Vancouver! Canada was beautiful and there were so many people speaking different languages. When we got to the Pacific Coliseum, we found out that we were only 4 rows behind where the skaters entered the ice. We got to see all of the greatest skaters up close. I was so lucky because I got to meet Dorothy Hamill and she was so nice and talked to me. Then, I was able to talk to Tara Lipinski and she was also very sweet. Kim Yu Na landed a triple jump right in front of me and I was so proud of Rachel and Mirai. All of these great women were beautiful inside and out. I hope someday to grow up and be just like them!
</story>
