2nd annual FrenchieSkate show to benefit pediatric cancer ward of Children’s Memorial Hospital features 2010 US Junior Champions and national and international competitors
Northbrook, IL – March 18, 2010: Families and fans of figure skating seeking an up-close opportunity to see the next generation of US figure skaters will have their chance at North Shore Ice Arena (2111 Founders Drive, Northbrook) on Saturday April 24 at 8:00pm. The second annual FrenchieSkate show will feature performances and a chance to mingle with top young skaters from the Chicagoland area. Tickets are only $20 and will be available at the door. A post show reception open to all will be held at Pinstripes Bowling Bocce & Bistro (1150 Willow Road, Northbrook) down the block from the arena.
The show features national and international competitors including 2010 US Junior Ladies Champion Agnes Zawadzki and 2010 US Junior Men’s Champion Jason Brown. Zawadzki also won the 2010 World Junior Ladies silver medal at the ISU World Junior Championships this month in The Hague, Netherlands.
The event, organized by New Trier High School senior and skater Georgia Glastris, is a benefit for the pediatric cancer ward at Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago (Fund 951910). All ticket proceeds and donations collected from FrenchieSkate will be used specifically for pediatric cancer patient care, comfort and quality of life at Children’s.
“FrenchieSkate is an outgrowth of a fundraising effort that several fifth graders and our teachers started in 2002 following the passing of our very close friend Francesca Persico,” said Glastris. “Frenchie was fun-loving, mature and driven to do great things. She bravely fought neuroblastoma for much of her life while keeping a spirit and joy for life we all should emulate. Each year since her passing, the fifth graders at Skokie School have put on FrenchieFest on Francesca’s birthday to raise money for the oncology patients’ floor of Children’s Memorial Hospital and to provide clothes and toys through Frenchie’s Closet for kids at the hospital.”
Also scheduled to perform are Alex Benoit, Jessica Calalang, Maverick Eguia, Carina Glastris & Kevin Allison, Celia Glastris, Kayla Grayson, Sara Harris, Osadolo Irowa, Mary Beth Marley, Sean Marshinski, Jordan Moeller, Danny O’Shea, Kristen Sarkisian, Sara Sarkisian, Alexa Scimeca and Samantha Torrey & Brian Krentz.
